Movie Title: Soul Surfer
Stars: Anna-Sophia Robb, Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid, Carrie Underwood
Rating: PG
My rating: I give this movie ten stars
Soul Surfer is based on the true story of Bethany Hamilton, the pro surfer that lost her arm to a shark attack. However Soul Surfer is more than just a movie about her comeback to surfing, it is also about her Faith in God to get her through what happened. The movie show cases her ups and downs as she has to almost learn how to surf again. Throughout the movie Bethany stands on the promise of Philippians 4:13 “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”
Anna-Sophia Robb stars as the young Surfer. Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid star as Bethany’s parents. Carrie Underwood stars as Sarah Hill a youth leader in her film debut.
Even though by Hollywood standards it’s not a big block buster, it is however a great family film. Soul surfer is a film that parents don’t have to worry about their kids seeing. There is no cursing, no inappropriate scenes. There is a little bit of blood; nothing too graphic. I saw Soul Surfer today, and counting the three people I was with there was only eight people in the theater, and the movie theater only had four showings today and it’s opening weekend what a shame it’s an awesome movie. Even the previews are “safe” for all eyes to watch. We need more movies like this that are truly family friendly movies.
