Book Lovers by Emily Henry review

Title:  Book Lovers

Author:  Emily Henry

Ch: 37 Plus Prologue and epilogue

Pg:  377

Genre:  Rom Com

Rating: 4 stars

Publisher: Berkley

Don’t let the cover fool you this isn’t your typical rom com. It’s actually more than that. It’s a rom com that makes fun of rom coms as in Hallmark movies which I personally find cheesy. But Book lovers is a deeper story. Nora can’t let go of the past she hasn’t dealt with her mother’s death and taking care of her sister Libby.

I related the most to Nora in the since of feeling responsible for my younger sister after losing our own mother. So, a lot of the quotes in this book hit me hard.

I loved the sister relationship in this book. It was realistic and believable. And a good relationship though it me sister created an account on a dating app and set me up on a blind date with a Tar Heels fan we might have a problem.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would, and I look forward to reading more Emily a Henry’s books.

Mr. Perfect on Paper by Jean Meltzer review

Title:  Mr. Perfect on Paper

Author:  Jean Meltzer

Ch: 42 plus Epilogue

Pg:  399

Genre:  Rom Com Contemporary romance

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: Mira

Another good book by Jean Meltzer. Mr. Perfect on Paper is more than just a rom com. Darla has a list of the perfect Jewish husband what she didn’t count on was her bubba or grandma sharing on a daytime tv show. Now Chris the anchor has an idea to feature her dates on his show. What follows is is a rom com romp through the high Jewish Holidays.

While the heroine and the author are Jewish t by e reader doesn’t have to be to relate to the characters or at least I didn’t have to be. Because Jean writes heroines and hero’s that everyone can relate to. I especially love that she writes heroines who have either a chorionic illness or condition as I suffer from a chronic condition. And as a reader I didn’t really see that in rom coms till I picked up Jeans books.

I also loved Darla’s relationship with her grandma because I also have a close relationship with my grandma especially since losing my mom. Mr. Perfect on Paper also deals with grief and loss perfectly. Slight spoiler alert especially the loss of a parent at different ages and how the grief never really leaves. But you learn how to make it a part of you and still live your life.

Jean weaves all this together to create an awesome story and I look forward to her next one.

The Contract by Jess Mastorakos review

Title:  The Contract

Author:  Jess Mastorakos

Ch: 25 plus epilogue

Pg:  231

Series: The Brides of Beaufort 5

Genre:  Contemporary romance

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: self

The Contract by Jess Mastorakos is My big Fat Greek wedding but with Marines with one of my favorite troupes and I loved it. Zoe and Chase are both Marines and friends with very different families. Chase is a surfer from Hawaii turned Marine with a slightly dysfunctional family. But Zoe comes from a large Greek family who wants her to have a traditional Greek life. Both their family’s issues lead to them listing to advice from a friend they end up in a marriage of convenience.

Marriage of convenience is one my favorite troupes, but it tends to only work in historical fiction. But Jess proves if done right it works in contemporary romance as well. I loved meeting Zoe’s family but importantly I loved following Zoe and Chase from friendship to what might be. And I loved that I got a Greek family like one of my favorite movies but with a Marine my all-time favorite hero both in books and real life.

Critical Alliance by Elizabeth Goddard review

Title:  Critical Alliance

Author:  Elizabeth Goddard

Ch: 39

Pg:  368

Series: Rocky Mountain Courage book 3

Genre:  Christian Romantic Suspense

Rating: 4 stars

Publisher: Revell

While each book in the Rocky Mountain Courage is a standalone it’s best to read them in order. Because there’s a small plot that starts in Present Danger but isn’t wrapped till Critical Alliance. Each book is a new mystery but what ties each together is the friendships between one of the main characters.

Though I have to say that critical Alliance the final book and the one that focused on cybercrime. I loved Mackenzie and Alex. Mackenzie’s a reformed computer hacker and Alex works for a government agency that handles higher level crimes. So it gave me a bit of Penelope Garcia vibes. This one was the faster paced book of the series and it kept me turning pages. If it hadn’t been for work and sleep, I would have finished it in one night. I look forward to more books by Elizabeth Goddard.
