Death Knells and Wedding Bells by Eva Gates review

Title: Death Knells and Wedding Bells

Author: Eva Gates

Ch: 20

Pg: 272

Series: A Light House Mystery book 10

Genre: Cozy mystery

Rating: 4 stars

Publisher: Crooked lane

I have to say that I think this one was one of my favorites of the series. Quite frankly I think Lucy really does need Charles the cat as a side kick. He truly is a good judge of character and he got to be a hero cat.

The Beginning by Jess Mastorakos review

Title: The Beginning

Author: Jess Mastorakos

Ch: 13 plus epilogue

Series: Brides of Beaufort

Genre: Rom Com romance

Rating: 4.5 stars

Publisher: Indie

If you’re read the Brides of Beaufort series, you know Ms. Hattie as the flower shop owner match maker. But in The Beginning, she just a young woman working in her family’s flower shop with one goal to not fall for a Marine. But enter Thatcher in town for wedding who happens to be a Marine. .

I loved getting to read the love story that started it all. Hattie’s and Thatcher’s love story reminded me a bit of my parents love story as my mom was determined to not fall for a Marine but thankfully, she did otherwise I wouldn’t be here.

As the Crow Flies by Jess Mastorakos review

Title: As the Crow flies

Author: Jess Mastorakos

Ch: 27

Pg: 320

Series: Love in Charlotte Oaks

Genre: Rom Com

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: Self

I’m not going to lie I’ve wanted Riley’s book since No Place like Home. And in As the Crow Flies I finally got it. And I’m glad that that the heroine for this story was Aubree Cole because book worms need happy ending too.

Riley Conrad might be a famous country singer, but he’s got a heart of gold he’s no heartbreaker. But what made him a favorite is what he went through in the first two books, yes, read the books in order. Plus, he’s got a heart for veterans. Aubree Coles feels like the invisible sister. But Riley sees her. This on the page romance might seem like it moved too fast, but the romance is technically six years and two books in the making. To me it’s the best of the series.

Plus I did not see that plot twist and slight cliff hanger ending coming.

The Sound of Light by Sarah Sundin review

Title: The Sound of Light

Author: Sarah Sundin

Ch: 51

Pg: 371

Genre: Christian Historical fiction, Christian Historical romance

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: Revell

With The Sound of Light by Sarah Sundin I feel like my reading WWII fiction has come full circle. As the first book I read at 10 set during WWII was also set in Denmark. Even at 10 Number the Stars by Lois Lowry show me how the Danish people stood up to the Nazis in a way kids could understand.

In The Sound of Light Sarah Sundin tells the story of Baron Henrik Ahlefeldt who gives up everything to make a difference for the resistance. And American Dr Else Jensen who at one point wants nothing more than to be a physicist makes the choice to risk it all to help her Jewish friends and Neighbors. Else’s Faith is strong throughout the novel and Henrik’s is still there it’s just taken a bit of a beating.

The Sound of light shows that every day people can make a difference and even though the characters are fictional it does tell what real-life Danes did to defeat the Nazis.

The Winter Soldier: Cold Front by Mackenzi Lee review

Title: The Winter Soldier: Cold Front

Author: Mackenzi Lee

Ch: 25

Pg: 416

Genre: retelling, comic

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: Marvel Press

I liked The Winter Solider: Cold Front by Mackenzi Lee more than I thought I would. I loved her Mackenzi Lee combined comic Bucky with MCU Bucky to give readers a Bucky unique to this book. And she did a great job of taking the best from the comics and the movies. I loved that it was dual time. We get both Bucky before the war and Winter Soldier Bucky.

While the reader gets some closure for one timeline. The book ends on a cliff hanger, at least to this reader. And gives me hope that we will get a sequel. And of course, Winter Soldier Cold Front reminds me yet again while Bucky is my favorite.

The All-American by Susie Finkbeiner review

Title: The All-American

Author: Susie Finkbeiner

Ch: 63 plus epilogue

Pg: 368

Genre: Christian Historical Fiction

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: Revell

As soon as I saw The All-American by Susie Finkbeiner, I knew I had to read it. I love all things baseball and one of my favorite movies is A League of Their Own. So, a book I that included The All-American Girls baseball league was right up my alley. And I wasn’t disappointed. I loved every minute of the book. From the lesser-known aspects of American history I sure didn’t learn about the Red Scare in my high school history class. As well as the closeness between the sisters Flossie and Bertha despite the age difference.

I found myself relating to both sisters though with Flossie it was her reading that I related to. With Bertha wanting to play baseball and the whole having to be better than the boys as that hasn’t really changed. And if my high school has had a home economics class, I would have definitely failed it.

But as a reader book lover and library assistant I know that the real hero of the book was Mrs. Maxwell the town librarian the way she stood up to bullies both the boys and the book banners she’s a real hero. And she did remind me of my own elementary school librarian.

The All-American was my first Susie Finkbeiner book but it will not be my last.

Authentically Izzy by Pepper D Basham review

Title: Authentically Izzy

Author: Pepper D Basham

Pg: 415

Series: Skymar 1

Genre: Christian Rom Com

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: Thomas Nelson

Authentically Izzy by Pepper D Basham is a rom com that is written in emails, letters and texts. As well as standard novel format. It’s also one they I listened to as well as read. I listened to the first half because it helped to make the emails and letters make sense. While reading the second half.

Izzy was an easy character to relate to. As a fellow book worm. But what made me love Izzy the most is that she had my career as a library assistant. That is the first time, I’ve ever seen it as a career in books let alone a rom com. For readers who don’t like love triangle there’s hints of one in the book, but it is only a hint. While most readers will easily fall for the guy Izzy’s falling for. But not me, I was falling for Izzy’s cousin Luke. What can I say I love a guy in flannel with a southern accent.

I enjoyed Authentically Izzy but I am looking forward to the next two, especially Luke’s story.
