Review of Boyfriends, Burritos, and an ocean of trouble

Title: Boyfriends, Burritos, and an Ocean of Trouble
Author: Nancy Rue
Series:   real life
Chapters: 22
Pages:
Genre: Christian teen fiction
Rating: 4 ½ stars
Bryn Christopher has been abused by her boyfriend Preston. After a nasty car accident the truth is reveled. Her father presses charges against Preston. That is just the beginning of the trouble that Bryn has to face. Her so called friends don’t believe that Preston was the one that abused her. Bryn becomes a target. She finds a leather book that presents the Bible in a whole new way that brings it to life for teens.
Her grandmother comes to visit in order to help Bryn deal with everything that’s happened. Her grandma gets her to learn to surf, and it’s while learning to surf that she meets Shaun. Can Bryn learn to trust God again? Can she face everything she has to face? Will she be willing to let Shaun in?
I enjoyed reading the book, it is a great book for teens to read. This series tackles the tough stuff that teens go through everyday. I guess that’s why the series is called real life.

school

School is kicking my butt this week and winning. I've finished a couple of books this week and last, but haven't had time to write a review for any of them. I hope to be back on track next week. I spent my three day weekend having fun when I should have been working to get ahead in my classes.

Chapters: 31

Katie Calloway has had enough from her abusive husband. So one day when he’s gone she grabs her little brother Ned and flees, she heads north knowing that that Harlan will follow. She cuts herself off from her family in order to stay safe. She ends up in Michigan.
Robert Foster was a doctor and a soldier in the Union army during the Civil War; and wants to forget the past the loss of his wife and the fact that his two children are under his sister’s care. He is the owner of a logging camp. He ends up hiring Katie on to be the camp cook. Katie gives a false in order to protect and her brother.
Katie and Robert both settle into a routine until Roberts’s sister bring his two children to the camp. Harlan; Katie’s husband shows up wanting her back. Will Katie ever be free of Harlan? Will Robert and Katie ever be able to admit their feelings?
I enjoyed the book it’s the first I’ve read by Serena Miller. The Measure of Katie Calloway is about a part of history that I wasn’t really familiar with. I enjoyed learning about logging camps. I am looking forward to her next book. The next book has different main characters but you get to find out what happened to Katie and Robert.

Bible Verses for 2012

This year I am choosing two Bible verses to be my verses for the year. One from Philippians and the other from 2 Peter.

“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.”
Philippians 4:11

No matter what path God has for me I want to be able to say that I am content in whatever season I am in at the moment; because it is exactly where God wants me to be at that moment.  His  ways are not our ways.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever! Amen”
2 Peter 3:18
No matter what I want to use this year to grow closer to my Savior and my Heavenly Father. I want the relationship that I had with them in high school when I was on fire for God. However God chooses to use me I want Him to get the glory, because it’s all about Him.
