Review of The Inheritance

Title: The Inheritance
Author: Tamera Alexander
Series:   woman of faith fiction
Chapters: 45 plus epilogue
Pages: 375
Genre: Christian Historical fiction
Rating: 5 stars

McKenna Ashford heads west to join her cousin’s family in order to give her younger brother Robert a chance at a better life. A chance to turn his life around.  Arriving in Copper Creek McKenna finds out that her cousin’s husband is dead and her cousin on her death bed. Her cousin makes McKenna to raise her daughter like her own.

McKenna already has her hands full with her brother and trying to do a man’s job. She has a gift of designing and making saddlers, she makes a deal with one of the Town’s livery owners to make the saddles in secret; so no one knows that she is the one making the saddles.

U.S. Marshal Wyatt Caradon means bad news to McKenna; she tries to keep her distance to protect her brother. She’s trying to fight her feelings for him. On the other hand Wyatt is trying to fight his feelings for McKenna. It’s only after he learns the saddle that he brought was designed by McKenna that he sees her in a new light. McKenna and Wyatt must work together to protect an innocence child and save a ranch. Will they both finally realize their feelings? Will they have a chance at love?

Just like with other books my Tamera Alexander I was drawn in to the story from the beginning. Like her other westerns McKenna is a strong heroine who even though she's had to be tough knows when it's time to lean on others and God.

There are four stories in one. Christmas Belles of Georgia is the story of four quadruplets who were born on Christmas and later adopted by four different families. Will the free spirit choice the southern Gentleman.

Title: Loving Stetson
Author: Debra Ullrick
Chapters: 10
Noelle is a cowgirl through and through and cannot image living any where other that her family’s ranch. Noelle has loved Stetson for as long as she can remember but he keeps pushing her away. When the letter comes that she is adopted she already knew that, but when she learns that she has siblings she begins to wonder why anyone would put their children up for adoption. Stetson admits his feelings for her, but when she learns about a secret from his past she pushes him away because she doesn’t know how to handle it. Will Noelle sort out her feelings? Do her and Stetson have a chance?

I enjoy all four short stories but my favorite was Loving Stetson because I have a thing for cowboys. Growing up I always wanted to be a cowgirl. So cowboy and cowgirl stories have a special place in my heart.

Review of Phoebe's Groom

Title: Phoebe’s Groom
Author: Deb Kastner
Series: Love inspired, A cowboy for every mood, Email ordered brides.
Chapters: 16 plus epilogue
Pages: 216
Genre: Christian Romance
Rating:  5 stars
Like all love inspired books it is a quick little read. It is the first book in Deb Kastner’s new series email ordered brides. It seems to be a play on the historical novels and the historical events of mail order brides. Phoebe’s Groom is about Chance Hawkins and Phoebe Yates.
Phoebe comes to a small Texas town to escape from her busy life as a pastry chief. The job at the family owned café is supposed to only last six weeks. Chance Hawkins is the cowboy cook at the café that cannot let go of the past and something that he feels responsible for.
Chance’s Aunt Jo and Lucy his teenage daughter are plotting together to get Phoebe and Chance together. Phoebe realizes that God sent her to the town for a reason she just doesn’t know what it is yet.
Phoebe’s Groom is a quick but enjoyable read just like the other Love inspired books. I am already looking forward to the next book in the series.

2012 Young Adult Reading Challenge

http://bumpsintheroad1.blogspot.com/2011/08/2012-young-adult-reading-challenge.html# at the

The Eclectic Bookshelf

The Mini YA Reading Challenge – Read 12 Young Adult novels.
I am choosing the

Book reveiw of Growing up Colt

Title: Growing up Colt
Author: Colt McCoy and Brad McCoy
Series:   no
Chapters: 15
Pages: 255
Genre: Nonfiction biography memoir
Rating:  5 stars
Growing up is told from Colt’s and his dad’s Brad’s point of view.  Growing up Colt covers Colt’s life from early childhood till he’s drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2010.Not being a football fan I didn’t learn about Colt McCoy until I read Mike Yokey’s book Playing with Purpose.
Even though the book talks about football, it mostly focuses on Colt’s life going up and his faith. He’s the first to admit that he owes it all to God. That without God he’d have nothing. To me the book was more about Colt growing up and his faith, his family than football. All in all it was a good book.

Soul Surfer

Movie Title: Soul Surfer
Stars: Anna-Sophia Robb, Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid, Carrie Underwood
Rating: PG
My rating: I give this movie ten stars

Soul Surfer is based on the true story of Bethany Hamilton, the pro surfer that lost her arm to a shark attack. However Soul Surfer is more than just a movie about her comeback to surfing, it is also about her Faith in God to get her through what happened. The movie show cases her ups and downs as she has to almost learn how to surf again. Throughout the movie Bethany stands on the promise of Philippians 4:13 “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”

Anna-Sophia Robb stars as the young Surfer. Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid star as Bethany’s parents. Carrie Underwood stars as Sarah Hill a youth leader in her film debut.

Even though by Hollywood standards it’s not a big block buster, it is however a great family film.  Soul surfer is a film that parents don’t have to worry about their kids seeing. There is no cursing, no inappropriate scenes. There is a little bit of blood; nothing too graphic. I saw Soul Surfer today, and counting the three people I was with there was only eight people in the theater, and the movie theater only had four showings today and it’s opening weekend what a shame it’s an awesome movie.  Even the previews are “safe” for all eyes to watch.  We need more movies like this that are truly family friendly movies.

Review of the Favored queen

Title: The Favored Queen: A novel of Henry VIII’s third wife
Author: Carolly Erickson
Series: no though Carolly Erickson has other fiction novels about famous woman and queens
Chapters: 29
Pages: 295
Genre: historical fiction
Rating:  4 ½ stars
It’s hard to give the favored Queen more than four and ½ stars because I was a little disappointed that it didn’t getting in too much about Jane’s marriage to Henry.  I know that they were only married a short time, but it seemed to focus on everything leading up to Jane’s and Henry’s marriage and the birth of Edward. Even though with the let down it was still a good book; if you know the story of Henry VIII then you pretty much know how the story ends.
The favored queen is told from Jane’s point of view, so you get a little bit of everything making it an interesting read, because Jane is always over looked in the Novel and in history. Even though I was disappointed about the story focuses so little on Jane and Henry I did enjoy the novel.
The Favored Queen is the second book by Carolly Erickson about one of Henry’s queens. The first book is about Catherine Parr Henry’s last queen but I haven’t read that one. The only other by her that I have read and enjoyed was the Tsarist’s Daughter. If you like historical fiction and the Tudors then you will like The Favored Queen, it is a pretty clean read I don’t remember too many curse words. There is however some stuff that is implied but the novel doesn’t really talk about it too much.
