The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes is about the women who were the
pack horse librarians in Eastern Kentucky during the Great Depression. But what is important in this novel is the
relationships of the women who make up the pack horse librarians. I enjoyed getting to know these fictional
woman who were inspired by the real women who volunteered to be pack horse librarians
during the Great Depression.
It
was easy to see that the author did her research in writing this novel. Even down
the library that African American Sophia trained down to the city which was
true to actual historical events. The
Giver of Stars is the third book about the pack horse librarians that I read
and its my favorite of the three. More needs
to be to showcase these amazing real life librarians that worked hard to bring
books to rural Eastern Kentucky.
