Black Canary Breaking Silence by Alexandra Monir is the 5th book On the DC Icons series and I have to say it’s my favorite of the series. Which surprised me as Black Canary was never on my radar as a DC character. But Dinah Lance was awesome in this one. A book that looks at Gotham in a future without Batman and heroes. A Gotham in which women are second class citizens.

But Dinah not going to be silent she’s going to fight back with the help of friends new and old. I’ve also haven’t been and Oliver Queen fan mainly because of the TV show but in this book we get the Oliver Queen we deserve along with the awesome librarian Barbara Gordon.

If this is the end of the DC Icon series then it was an awesome end.

Review of Superman: Dawnbreaker

 Superman and Clark Kent have always been my second favorite DC  superhero Wonder Woman is my favorite DC superhero and favorite super hero in general.   Superman is my second favorite mainly because of  nerdy farm kid Clark Kent.  So I wanted to love this book and unfortunately I didn't love it.  It happens to be my least favorite of the DC Icons series.   But there was parts of the book that I loved. The fact that its set when he's a teenager who's learning about his powers and how to control them.  The fact that's its set in Smallville was giving me flash backs to my pre-teen and teenage years and the TV show Smallville about a teenage Clark Kent.   I pictured the actors from that show when I was thinking about what the book characters would look like. 

Even though I didn't like the book I am glad I read it to be able to finish out the DC Icon series and see this view of Clark Kent and Superman. 

Review of Catwoman: SoulStealer

     Catwoman: Soulstealer the third book in the DC Icons series by Sarah J Maas was the one I was most concerned about. Mainly because I have yet to meet a Sarah J Maas book that I’ve actually liked. To me the majority of her books either have love triangles or abusive relationship in them.  Though I find myself in the minority feeling that way.

     However, with this book she surprised me. It was the first book of hers that I actually enjoyed. Even though it was my least favorite of this series so far. Selina Kyle has come back to Gotham for revenge, and why the Batman’s way it’s up Luke Fox aka Batwing to protect the city. Though I am total Batcat, and ship Bruce and Selina. The relationship between Selina and Former Marine turned superhero Luke Fox though he was already a superhero in my book when he joined the Marines is believable and actually had me rooting for them to make it.

     I loved seeing Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn join Catwoman’s gang has me wanting the DC Sirens movie. The one time Sarah having a character purl her dialogue and it fit, the old school catwoman purred a lot she doesn’t do it. 

     All in all a pretty good read.

Review of Batman: Nigthwalker

     Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu is the second book in the DC Icons Series Wonder Woman was the first one. This book was better than I thought it would be as my first Marie Lu book I didn’t know what to think. But she did an awesome job of writing angry teenage Bruce Wayne. A teenage with a chip on his shoulder who just can’t wait to get his trust fund.

     However, I still don’t understand who thought it was smart for a teenage boy to do his community service hours in an insane asylum. What the heck was the judge and cop thinking. An insane asylum is no place for a teenage. But other than that it was still a pretty good read but I still think Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo is my favorite of the series so far.

                In Wonder Woman: Warbringer Leigh Bardugo proposes a new Wonder Woman Origin story different from the movie but in many ways still the same. In this one even though Princess Diana is still immortal she is just a teenage. A teenage who doesn't fit in with the rest of the Amazon's as she didn't she didn't get to the Island the same way the rest of them did. She hasn't done anything to earn that respect is what many of them think, all but Maeve. The rest she her as just the daughter of their queen. 

     When a mortal girl Alia Keralis washes up on the beach, Diana discovers that she's not just any girl. She's a war bringer. Descendant of Helen of Troy, destined to bring about the end of the world. But there is away to stop it. But Diana and Alia are going to have to work together in order to stop it. It's a journey that will take them from Diana's island to New York and finally to Greece. Diana must do all of this in secret and quickly because if she doesn't the world is destroyed but if she succeeds and is found out she faces exile.  

     I enjoyed this version of Wonder Woman's origin story. It's nice to image her as a teenager. It's a nice twist on what we normally get with the TV show, comics and now the movie. But the WWI aspect of the movie was still different than them doing another WWII origin story. 

     Wonder Woman: Warbringer is the first in a four book series (at least) called DC Icons that gives us background and origins of four DC heroes or villains.  Batman: Nighwalker by Marie Lu, Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J. Maas and a Superman one by Matt de la Pena. I enjoyed the fact the Wonder woman was the first one, she's my favorite superhero.
