Positively Penelope is the second book in the Skymar series. And I enjoyed it just as much as I did Accidentally Izzy. In this one Penelope comes into her own. And the reader gets to see her grow even more than she did in the first book. I enjoyed getting to see more of the island of Skymar. And of course, Matt and Isis help to make the story. And I’ve also found that the single dad troupe is starting to grow on me.

Authentically Izzy by Pepper D Basham is a rom com that is written in emails, letters and texts. As well as standard novel format. It’s also one they I listened to as well as read. I listened to the first half because it helped to make the emails and letters make sense. While reading the second half.

Izzy was an easy character to relate to. As a fellow book worm. But what made me love Izzy the most is that she had my career as a library assistant. That is the first time, I’ve ever seen it as a career in books let alone a rom com. For readers who don’t like love triangle there’s hints of one in the book, but it is only a hint. While most readers will easily fall for the guy Izzy’s falling for. But not me, I was falling for Izzy’s cousin Luke. What can I say I love a guy in flannel with a southern accent.

I enjoyed Authentically Izzy but I am looking forward to the next two, especially Luke’s story.

Hope Between the Pages by Pepper Basham is a dual time novel sent in both 1915 and the present Day Ashville North Carolina and the English Countryside.  Sadie's story and romance in 1915 that drew me in. But it was Clara Blackwell's story in the present day that kept me turning pages in order to find out what was going to happen next. This shocked me as I'm not huge fan of contemporary stories but for some reason I was more drawn to Clara than I was Sadie.  Maybe it was because Clara was easier to relate too. For many reasons. Both Sadie and Clara were bookworms, but like me Clara loves vintage fashion and seems to be older than her years. As well as her fear of losing her remaining parent after already losing one at a younger age. I know that fear all too well I live with it every day.  So you can say I see a kindred spirit in Clara.  I loved the English sitting more than Ashville.   

 

And while I liked both heroes,  it was Max who stole my heart. Not only have I always loved nerdy heroes in my books and movies I also can't help but falling for the scared hero as well. Blame it on my favorite childhood movie being Beauty and the Beast. But Max was indeed the perfect match for Clara.  

 

Though I didn't want the book to end and it was bittersweet to me the book ended perfectly.

My Heart Belongs in the Blue Ridge Laurel's dream is my first book by Pepper D. Basham but it will not be my last. It's the seventh book I've read this year and my second 5-star book. Set in Maple Creek North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains part of the Appalachian Mountains chain.  Laurel is a mountain girl who has dreams of college to become a teacher and come back to her mountain home to help her people. Jonathan Taylor is from England and what the mountain people call a flat lander.  Though Laurel her mom and her siblings have a strong faith a lot of the mountain people   tend to be superstitious and not welcoming of outsiders. 

I enjoyed this book. It's the first book that I can remember reading set in this area and this time period.  Jonathan's faith at the beginning of the novel is there it's just not as strong as Laurel's.  What I think is funny is that both Laurel's and Jonathan's faith strength is shaped by their relationships with their earthly fathers.   Though Jonathan's weak because of the fact that he thinks God sees him the way his father does. While Laurel's faith in her Heavenly father is strong because she needs that faith to deal with the two sides of her earthly father. 

Even though my family didn't come from the mountains of North Carolina (in recent memory) or mountains of Kentucky.  I Imagine my great grandma’s up bringing was similar to Laurel’s though all she managed was an eight grade education much like her son's my grandfather. As I am the first in my family to go to college.  I can relate to Laurel wanting to "better herself" to help her family and community. She's a book worm who takes every chance she can get to sneak away to read. 

My Heart Belongs in the Blue Ridge Laurel's Dream has peaked my interest in finding other books set in the time period.  I also look forward to reading other books by Pepper D. Basham.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and Christian Historical fiction with a hint of romance.
