Review of Lois Lane: Fallout

Lois+Lane:+FalloutTitle: Lois Lane: Fallout

Author: Gwenda Bond

Series: Lois Lane book 1

Chapters: 26

Pages: 304

Genre: teen

Rating: 4 stars

Move over Superman and Clark Kent. It's Lois's turn to shine. Fallout takes place before Lois meets Clark Kent. Her father's job in the Army has kept Army Brat Lois moving around, everywhere she's lived she's managed to get into trouble. In Metropolis is going to be different.

It was nice to read about Lois as a teenager. The tag of comparing it to Veronica Mars and I was hooked, and the mention of her online friend Smallville guy it was like a trip to my teenage years.

Review of The Death code

Epic Reads Cover Reveal: THE DEATH CODE by Lindsay Cummings - on sale April 21st!Title: The Death Code

Author: Lindsay Cummings

Series:  The Murder Complex book 2

Chapters: 113 plus epilogue

Pages: 496

Genre: teen dysption

Rating: 4 stars

The Death Code picks up where the Murder Complex leaves off. Meadow wants to finish what she started in The Murder complex but she doesn't know if she's going to be able to pull it off. I actually enjoyed book two more so than book one.

The ending was a good. It summed everything up and gave an ending that was perfect for the books, but also left it open at least to me for the possibility of   another book.

Review of Nowhere but Here

Dreaming Under the Same Moon : Cover Candy, Edition 20Title: Nowhere But Here

Author: Katie McGarry

Series: Thunder Road book 1

Pages: 496

Genre: new adult

Rating: 4 stars

Nowhere but Here is the first book in the Thunder Road series. It is a series about a motorcycle club. Emily has thought for her whole life that her dad didn't want her. That he left her and her mother.  What she doesn't knew is that they couldn't be farther from the truth. Oz has only wanted one thing and that is to become a member of the reign of terror.  He believes that Emily is going to ruin it for him.  I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I would say that is a new adult book because there are some scenes that would not suitable for younger readers.

Review of The Mistress of Tall Acre

If This is actually the cover I love it. can't wait (September 2015) The Mistress of Tall Acre: A Novel by Laura Frantz http://www.amazon.com/dp/080072044X/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_QOi9ub1G8AEN9: Title: The Mistress of Tall Acre

Author: Laura Frantz

Chapters: 38

Pages: 395

Genre: Christian Historical Romance, Christian Historical

Rating: 5 stars

The Mistress of Tall Acre is the newest book by Laura Frantz. Just like her previous books it was awesome.   The Mistress of Tall Acre is a sound alone novel, set during the 18th century at the end of the American Revolution.   I enjoyed this stand alone novel; it was nice that the whole story was in one book.

Seamus Ogilvy is a scared General inside and out. The war was long and hard.  Some of the injuries of war are easier to get off than others.   He just wants to get Tall Acre back up to the noble home it was till the war. He also wants to raise his daughter Lily-Cate. But more than anything he wants to live the past in the past.

Sophie Menzies has been all alone since her brother left to fight, her mother's death and her father running back to Scotland.  She's all but given up.  Sophie is strong in her faith and is determining to follow God's leading. However with nowhere else to go Sophie agrees to marry Seamus. An arrangement that they both thing was always be in name only.   His daughter needs a mother and Sophie needs a home. I normally don't love marriage of convenience stories, but I loved this one. Because it didn't take away from the story if it anything it added to the story.

I love how that both Seamus and Sophie are older a little older late twenties and earlier thirties.  It made it easier to relate to the characters.  The fact that Sophie was strong in her faith, because at many through the novel many times it is the only thing getting her through.  Both Seamus and Sophie have a lot to learn not only about each other, but life, and most importantly faith. The journey to the ending is full of twist and turns but all so worth it.

The Mistress of a Tall Acre is a fast paced read that you will not want to put down.  While Sophie has become my new favorite heroine of Laura's and Seamus is my new favorite hero for reasons I can't give away without giving away the story; it is all the characters that shape the story.   Without the supporting characters as well The Mistress of Tall Acre wouldn't be the story it is. And Laura adding a new twist to her writing. She added a bit of mystery and suspense to her historical romance and I love it.

I was given an E-copy from Netgalley exchange for an honest review.

Review of The Isle of The Lost

The Isle of the Lost (Descendants, #1)Title: The Isle of the Lost

Author: Melissa De La Cruz

Series: Descendants book 1

Chapters: 27 plus epilogue

Pages: 311

Genre: fantasy

Rating: 4 stars

The Isle of the lost is the prequel novel to Disney's new movie the Descendants.  Which focuses on the children of Disney heroes' and villains.  The Isle of the lost focuses on one heroes child and four children of the villains.  Ben the son of the beast and Belle. Mal, the daughter of Malcficent, Evie the daughter of the Evil queen. Jay the son of Jafar, and Carolos the son of Cruella.

I first I didn't know if I was going to like the book. But as I go into the book I actually enjoyed it. As a  Disney fan it was neat to read about the children of some of my favorite heroes and villains. Now that I have read Isle of the Lost I am looking forward to watch the Descendants.

Review of Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke

Dreaming Under the Same Moon : More Cover CandyTitle: Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke

Author: Anne Blankman

Series: Prisoner of Night and Fog book 2

Chapters: 39 plus eliogue and author's note

Pages: 406

Genre: Teen historical fiction

Rating: 4 stars

Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke picks up where Prisoner of Night and Fog leaves off.  Gretchen and Daniel both thought they had escaped the nightmare that was Hitler and Germany. But they end up getting drawn back into the fray.

To me Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke was more fast paced than the first book.  There's more drama and danger.  In this novel Gretchen finally finds out who her friends are. Gretchen gets to be the hero in this one.   She also discovers that she is stronger than she was lead to believe growing up.  The ending of the book was perfect. I can't say that it's a happy ending because not many books set during the decade leading up to WWII as happy.

Review of Daughter of the Regiment

Daughter of the Regiment by Stephanie Grace WhitsonTitle: Daughter of the Regiment

Author: Stephanie Grace Whitson

Chapters: 26

Pages: 310

Genre: Christian Historical Fiction, Christian Historical Romance

Rating: 5 stars

In Daughter of the Regiment when Irish immigrant Maggie Malone's brothers march off to the join the Union's army Missourian Irish Brigade.  She ends up following them, and becoming a nurse of sorts.  While Elizabeth or Libbie is a southern belle who lives in fear of her brother. These two women couldn't be more different even though they live in the same town.
Maggie believes that no man could ever fall in love with her because at six foot.  John Coulter Colt Segerent of the brigade is determined to prove her wrong.

I enjoyed Daughter of the Regiment I loved how Maggie loved her brothers enough to follow them into battle.  I also learned a little bit of history with this novel.  I knew that the majority of the Irish American fought for the north.  What I didn't know was that the Union army had whole brigades of Irish American fighters. I enjoyed reading this novel and look forward to finding nonfiction books on Irish brigades to learn more.

Review of Now and Forever

(June 2015) Now and Forever (Wild at Heart) by Mary Connealy http://www.amazon.com/dp/076421179X/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_PGsuub10543R3Title: Now and Forever

Author: Mary COnnealy

Series: Wild at Heart

Chapters: 33

Pages: 328

Genre: Christian Historical, Christian historical romance

Rating: 4.5 stars

Now and Forever is the second book in Wild at heart Series. This book focuses on Shannon Wilde the middle sister. Who after spending five days in the wilderness with Matthew Tucker she is forced to marry him in order to save her reputation.  It is a marriage of opposites as Shannon wants to live a peaceful life raising her sheep. She doesn't want to harm anything. While Matthew is a mountain man who makes his living by hunting and trapping things.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time that I was reading it. Even though I enjoyed this book more than the first book in the series I am still looking forward to the third book and Bailey's story.

Review of Lion Heart

Title: Lion Heart
Lion Heart: A Scarlet Novel by A.C. Gaughen May 19th 2015
Author: A.C. Gaughen

Series: Scarlet book 3

Chapters: 33

Pages: 346

Genre: teen retelling

Rating: 4 stars

Lion Heart is the third and final book in the Scarlet series.   In which everything Scarlet and Rob have been working towards come to a head.  Scarlet gets news from her father through her grandmother that will change both her life and Rob's as well.  This news will allow them to better help the people of Nottingham.

I enjoyed Lion Heart, it was my favorite of the series.  Things happened in this book that I was waiting to happen since book one. I have to say that I was happy with the ending. After the stress and cliff hangers of the first and second book. The only thing that kept me from giving this book five stars was the language and a few scenes.   This series was my first Robin Hood retelling and I hope to read more Robin Hood retelling.  I am also looking forward to more books by this author.

A Sweet little romance set in Ireland. In which two Americans meet in an Irish pub. Review of The Princess Spy

DecemberTitle: The Princess Spy

Author: Melanie Dickerson

Series: Fairy tales book 5

Chapters: 32 plus epilogue

Pages: 293

Genre: Christian fairy tale retelling, Christian romance, teen

Rating: 5 stars

The Princess Spy was a retelling of The Princess and the Frog. Which was one fairy tale I never really liked. But I loved this retelling. Colin the hero of this novel is the grandson of the hero of The Merchant's daughter and Margaretha is the younger sister of the heroes from The Captive Maiden and The Fairest Beauty.

In The Princess Spy the princess moves a little bit beyond the traditional fairy tale role. To the point that in many ways she becomes a hero in her own right.  Proving that she's more than a pretty face.

I enjoyed this book and there was a scene in chapter eight that reminded me a bit of The Princess Bride. Melanie's books keep getting better. I can't wait for her next book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher as part of a blog tour. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
