Notthingham review

Nottingham by Nathan Makaryk | GoodreadsTitle:  Nottingham

Author:  Nathan Makaryk

Pages: 496

Genre: retellings

Rating: 2 stars

I wanted to love this one. I've been a Robin Hood fan since childhood. (thanks dad)  I've since every movie with the newest one being my favorite  with the Disney cartoon being a close second. I'm working my way through the BBC series right now. So I picked Nottingham up to see what new twist could be added to the Robin Hood legend. I will admit I loved some of the background on the characters and I loved that we got chapters from each. But to me there were just too many character point of views.  From characters to me felt like secondary characters.  There were parts of Marian's characters that  I loved that she was strong and determined and not a damsel in distress and spoiler: with the outlaws from the beginning. But there were parts like the choice that she made at the end that didn't seem like the Marian from the beginning.  This Robin wasn't my favorite but he was realistic he was a solider hardened  and scared  by war.

However,  Gisbourne  was  pretty much the same way he always is and I loved that. I think that's what made him my favorite never thought I say that in this book.  I thought the ending was a little rushed  and even though I didn't like the way it ended, The ending fit the way that the story was going.  I don't think at that point it could have ended any other way.  I'm still on the look for a Robin Hood retelling that I love, but I am willing to give this author another try and will read any future books by this author.   But just because I didn't like it doesn't mean that another reader won't love it. Their view of the Robin Hood legend could be different than mine and this book is what they've always wanted.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

The Liberty Bride review

The Liberty Bride by MaryLu Tyndall | GoodreadsTitle:  The Liberty Bride

Author:  Marylu Tyndall

Series: Daughters of the Mayflower book 6

Chapters: 30

Pages: 253

Genre: Christian Historical Fiction

Rating: 4 stars
The Liberty Bride by Marylu Tyndall is the sixth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower series.   The books in this series have been hit or miss for me. This one is set during the war of 1812 a period of history that I haven't read many books about plus its by one of my favorite authors so I had high hopes for this one.

Marylu Tyndall is my go to author for all things pirate and nautical and she hasn't let me down yet.   Lieutenant Owen Masters is a British naval officer but he's really and American spy. Emeline Baratt is on her way home to the US but Owen thanks she is loyal to British neither realize that they are actually each other’s hope.  If they are to survive they must learn to trust each other. I look forward to the next book in this series as well as the next book from Marylu.

Review of My Dearest Dietrich

My Dearest Dietrich: A Novel of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Lost Love by Amanda Barratt | GoodreadsTitle:  My Dearest Dietrich

Author: Amanda Barratt

Chapters: 37 plus epilogue

Pages: 356

Genre: Christian Historical fiction

Rating: 5 stars

My Dearest Dietrich is set in Germany during WWII so it is my no means a light hearted romance.  And one that doesn't have a happy ending. But I guess you can say that about a lot of books set during WWII. But this is an historical fiction novel about Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the woman who loved him Maria Von Wedemeyer.

I knew who Dietrich was I've even read a few of his books.  But I didn't know anything about Maria till I read this one.  Now I want to read the book of their letters.

Reading this book though sad at times reminded me that were indeed Germans that stood up to Hitler and the Nazis even when it cost them everything.

Even though this is an emotional read have tissues handy. I would recommend that everyone read this.  It's truly worth it and I normally don't read fiction books about war. I tend to stick to non-fiction accounts.
