 Not going to lie Jax Thorne gave me Bucky Barnes vibes. Not the Avengers movies Bucky but the Bucky that we see in The Falcon and Winter Soldier, And I was there for it. And I loved Luna’s spunk. And of course the marvel and DC references as well as other pop culture references adding to the slight superhero vibes. 

 

And what can I say I enjoyed this superhero rom com. As well as the crime fighting duo even if one’s a little bit grumpy but then I love grumpy heroes.  I want more Luna and Jax. And I was happy to learn that My Vigilante Valentine is becoming a series.

I have to say this might be my favorite book in The Christmas in Snow Hill series. I loved Sophia since meeting her as a secondary character in Snowed in For Christmas. So, I was glad she was getting her own story. Hudson, I just love a Marine hero. And the pen pals writing back and forth gives it a bit of a you’ve got mail vibes with letters instead.  And Snow Hill always feels like a magical Christmas town every time I pick up one of the books. And I loved that this one had a bit of mystery with it.

The White Chocolate Christmas wish by Jess Mastorakos is part of the Christmas Kisses and Cookie Crumbs novella collection. But it’s also a Charlotte Oaks short story. So if you loved that series and Christmas novella then this books is for you.

After Hope and Colton find a Christmas in Charlotte Oaks bucket list inside he’s determined to make it a Christmas she’ll always remember. This was a sweet short story only 80 pages which I read in about an hour. After reading How I love you I wanted more of Colton and Hope and this Christmas story was the right amount for those two characters. And I loved that Gertie the goat made an appearance.

Just when I think I know which hero from Love In Charlotte Oaks is my favorite, I get thrown a curve ball. First it was Riley and then we got broody Travis. But now we have loyal sometimes to a fault and slightly grumpy Adam Wilson. The Oldest Wilson brother former Marine and town cop. I’m pretty sure him and Travis are tied for favorite with Riley being a close second.

Then we have Paisley Stevens, former music manager turned Charlotte Oaks 911 dispatcher. We first met Paisley in No Place Like Home, the first one in the series. Yes, the books, even though each is a standalone, need to be read in order. I admit I didn’t like Paisley at first but in this one I loved her. And as a fellow big sister she’s easy to relate to.

Paisley and Adam’s relationship may be my favorite of the series. I love their banter. Their banter throughout the series as the one couple we’ve seen grow and change throughout the whole series. Another reason to read in order. So, you don’t miss anything. So needless to say, I loved these two older siblings butting heads and get more of their back stories of why they are the way they are. Yes, this one has flashback chapters. And of course, this one also features everyone’s favorite matchmaker goat Gertie. And I also enjoyed seeing a character with my name even she was only a secondary character. 

Snowed in for Christmas by Jess Mastorakos review

Snowed in For Christmas by Jess Mastorakos is the third book in the Christmas at Snow Hill series. Tommy is a big city cop turned small town cop and Grace is a travel writer who has no plans to settle down.

But there’s just something about the romance that found in a small town that turns into a Christmas town once a year. Reading Snowed in For Christmas is like being inside a Hallmark movie but a well written Hallmark movie. I have to say while Jack and Robins story was my favorite in the series. Tommy and Grace’s have a special place in my heart.

In Write what you Know the fourth book in the Love In Charlotte Oaks Jess Mastorakos does it again. Another laugh out rom com with a Marine hero. I thought Riley Conrad would be my favorite hero in this series, but then I met Marine Staff Sergeant Travis Wilson. Who just happens to have the one Marine MOS that’s weakness for me in a romance hero. A slight bad boy Marine with a heart of gold.

And Aurora St John is my favorite heroine and the one I relate to the most as a fellow Marine brat the daughter of lifer Marine. And of course, I could relate to what she said about growing up because I have said something similar. And Rory as she’s called by everyone, but Travis writes rom coms and that’s currently my hobby.

To me Write what you know is the realistic book I’ve read that Jess has written. And Gertie the goat is starting to grow on me.

If you’re read the Brides of Beaufort series, you know Ms. Hattie as the flower shop owner match maker. But in The Beginning, she just a young woman working in her family’s flower shop with one goal to not fall for a Marine. But enter Thatcher in town for wedding who happens to be a Marine. .

I loved getting to read the love story that started it all. Hattie’s and Thatcher’s love story reminded me a bit of my parents love story as my mom was determined to not fall for a Marine but thankfully, she did otherwise I wouldn’t be here.

As the Crow Flies by Jess Mastorakos review

I’m not going to lie I’ve wanted Riley’s book since No Place like Home. And in As the Crow Flies I finally got it. And I’m glad that that the heroine for this story was Aubree Cole because book worms need happy ending too.

Riley Conrad might be a famous country singer, but he’s got a heart of gold he’s no heartbreaker. But what made him a favorite is what he went through in the first two books, yes, read the books in order. Plus, he’s got a heart for veterans. Aubree Coles feels like the invisible sister. But Riley sees her. This on the page romance might seem like it moved too fast, but the romance is technically six years and two books in the making. To me it’s the best of the series.

Plus I did not see that plot twist and slight cliff hanger ending coming.

Somebody to Lean on by Jess Mastorakos review

This one gave me Life as we know it vibes but better. Because both Jackson and Bailey are actually friends. There’s something about Jess Mastorakos’s writing and the way she tips rom com troupes on their heads. As I normally don’t like friends to more. But with the way Bailey and Jackson are written it works. That bond between Navy Corpman runs deep.

Somebody to Lean On does use miscommunication as one of the troupes normally not my fave but the way Jess writes it and the reason for it works for this story.

While I loved seeing Bailey and Jackson’s story playing out. But I also loved being back in Charlotte Oaks and seeing old friends. But Gertie the goat and Phoebe stole the show.

I’ve never been a fan of the runway bride trope however if you make grumpy sunshine my all-time favorite trope since forever thank you Beauty and the Beast. And throw in a Marine hero then I’m hooked.

No one does Marine heroes like Jess. And not to mention writing tropes I don’t like and make me love them. I loved this final book in the series it was great as its own story. But it also served as a wrap up of the series. And now I’ve got to read the other series because I’ve meet characters from those. The Runaway stands as its own but wraps up the series beautifully.

I was excited about this one because Jess is one of my favorite contemporary authors and I love small town romances. Though I was worried I wouldn’t get her typical hero, a Marine. But I didn’t have to worry her small town hero is Everette former Marine turned mechanic.

I loved the small-town setting as it was almost like its own character. And I loved Everette from the beginning. However, it took me a while to warm up to Laney. As the way she is in the beginning she’s one that takes a while to warm up to. But she does grow on you.

This is the first book in the Charlotte Oaks series, and I can wait to read more. It’s also part of the novella collection Fall back in love.

The Contract by Jess Mastorakos is My big Fat Greek wedding but with Marines with one of my favorite troupes and I loved it. Zoe and Chase are both Marines and friends with very different families. Chase is a surfer from Hawaii turned Marine with a slightly dysfunctional family. But Zoe comes from a large Greek family who wants her to have a traditional Greek life. Both their family’s issues lead to them listing to advice from a friend they end up in a marriage of convenience.

Marriage of convenience is one my favorite troupes, but it tends to only work in historical fiction. But Jess proves if done right it works in contemporary romance as well. I loved meeting Zoe’s family but importantly I loved following Zoe and Chase from friendship to what might be. And I loved that I got a Greek family like one of my favorite movies but with a Marine my all-time favorite hero both in books and real life.

     The Fake Date by Jess Mastorakos is the 4th book in The Brides of Beaufort series, and I have to say it’s my favorite of the series so far. And it’s in my top 3 of her books. Lyndi Robinson is my favorite heroine because I have to say it’s nice to see a nerdy bookworm. She reminded me quite a bit of me.

Beau Devereux however is indeed my favorite hero. What’s not to love about a Marine hero from Louisiana. I mean what’s not to love about a guy who has the kindle app on his phone. Which to me makes him Jess’s swooniest hero.

I also loved Beau’s dad as a character because he reminded me so much of my own dad. Especially his relationship with Beau’s mom.

This one leans more to the rom com genre than previous books in the series. But for this one it works as the heroines a bookworm who loves her book tropes. And even though I’ve never seen Top Gun I did get the references to the movie in the book and thinks it adds to the story. Can’t Wait for the next book in the series.

    The Bridesmaid by Jess Mastorakos is the newest book in The Brides of Beaufort series. Layla’s story and she’s been a bridesmaid seven times but never a bride. She’s gun shy after having her hurt broke by Marine Zac Miller three years earlier.

Who just happens to be back in Beaufort with a son in toll. He wants a second chance but Layla’s not so sure. He’s got his work cut out for him. But luckily for him Ms. Hattie’s willing to help.

Layla was an easy character to relate too, as I too have been a bridesmaid seven times. I loved her relationship with her twin Lyndi who I did actually relate to as a fellow book worm and photographer. While Layla as an artist reminds me of my sister. So I love stories with close sister relationships. And I’m a sucker for second chance romances. I loved this one and each book in the series gets better than the previous one. I can’t wait for the next one.

The Planner by Jess Mastorakos review

I don’t know how Jess Mastorakos does it but she’s done it again with The Planner and that’s to get me to fall in love with book that has a romance trope I normally hate. And in The Planner is the brother’s best friend trope. I’m beginning to think it’s a combination of her writing style and the fact that the majority of her heroes are Marines including Will the brothers best friend.

Aria is a strong and sassy wedding planner and I loved her. Along with Will but then they were secondary characters in The Proposal. This one ended being sweeter than I thought it would be and I loved that.

I also enjoyed that the epilogue set up the next book in the series and I can’t wait for The Bridemaid.

The wait for A Royal Christmas for the Marine by Jess Mastorakos. It ended up being my favorite of the First Comes love series. And I tend to not like Royal romances because i don’t like the normal girl becoming a princess. But apparently when the girl is a Marine who becomes a Princess I’m hooked.

I loved Maya and Theo equally and I had a slight nerdy marvel moment learning Maya grew up a carnie as my favorite superhero started life as a carnie. And that Maya chose the Marines in order to have a family. And when she thought, she was going to lose everything Theo reminded her she would always be a Marine. I loved that Theo truly did love her and wanted to be there for her. They really did bring. Out the best in each other.
