To Treasure an Heiress by Roseanna M White review

Title:  To Treasure an Heiress

Author:  Roseanna M White

Ch: 30

Pg:  384

Series: Secrets of the Isles

Genre:  Christian Historical Fiction, Christian Historical romance

Rating: 4.5 stars

Publisher: Bethany House

I have to say that To Treasure an Heiress is my favorite book of the Secrets of the Isle series. And I think it’s the whole searching for pirate treasure and finding out more to the pirate story. Plus, Beth become a favorite of mine in the first book and Sheridan quickly grew on me. And just like the first book I loved Beth’s grandmas’ words of wisdom.

But someone else kind of stole the hero title away from Sheridan at least from my point of view. And that was Ainsley lord Sheridan valet. I loved that Ainsley wasn’t afraid to live out his faith. He never turned away from the chance to share the love of Jesus. Ainsley was always willing to do the right thing no matter the cost. But importantly he didn’t treat Senara differently when he learned the truth. He just showed her who she was in Christ, and he wanted her to find Christ even if didn’t end the way he wanted it to. Ainsley quote l, “But we’re not fabric, Senara. We are pearls.” Is the quote that stands out to me the most.

I love a book in which you love the main characters but it’s the secondary characters that steal your heart. And he becomes the hero of the book to you.

I look forward to the next book in series to see how everything wraps up. And like always I love her Roseann threads faith throughout the story.

To Treasure an Heiress

the Secrets of the Isles, 2

Beth Tremayne has always been drawn to adventure. During her childhood, she fed that desire by exploring every inch of the Isles of Scilly. As an adolescent, she dreamed of love in London’s ballrooms. Now, stumbling across an old map on her family’s property, she’s found more adventure than she ever dreamed in the hunt for pirate treasure. Unfortunately, Beth can’t escape the attentions of her family’s guest, Lord Sheridan.

Sheridan has spent years pursuing whatever archaeological interest caught his imagination. And when he discovers that Beth’s search connects with one of his favorite pirates of history, he can’t help getting involved. Plus, he finds her irresistible, even though she insists he stole a prized possession of hers.

As they work together following different clues and drawing closer to danger, they start to piece together a story of tragic love and piratical adventure. But the true surprise is the treasure they discover in one another.

Tidewater Bride by Laura Frantz review

 Title:  Tidewater Bride

Author:  Laura Frantz

Ch: 46

Pg:  416

Genre:  Christian Historical Romance, Christian Historical Fiction

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: Revell

Laura Frantz has done it again. Just when I don’t think she can’t out do the previous book she goes and proves me wrong. Even though this one is outside her historical wheel house, it still has Laura’s one of a kind writing style. As you read you can tell that she took the time to research the time period as she does with all her novels before she put pen to paper.

Having been to the Jamestown it’s easy to picture the setting and with my love of history it’s easy to put in the historical time period. But a James Town setting isn’t something I’ve read before in fiction before and when movies try to do it they get it historically wrong. Like previous novels Laura write the Indigenous people’s with truth and grace.

Xander the hero of this novel while not perfect no hero can be, but he is a man of faith, honor and his conviction. They you can see throughout the novel. I think he has become my favorite hero of hers, sorry Seamus. And Selah the heroine is Laura’s most unique to date and not just because of her. She’s strong willed and has a mind of her own. Especially when’s she says she won’t be a tobacco widow. I’ve heard the term heard it growing up but never seen written in a book. But most importantly she has a heart of gold.

There’s a scene that I don’t want to give to much a way but Laura writes it such emotion that you feel what Xander is going through, that all tobacco farmers feared even in to the 20th century. As well some of my favorite lines that Laura has written in this novel. Tidewater Bride will stay with me for a while.

Review of The King's Mercy

The King's MercyTitle:  The King’s Mercy

Author: : Lori Benton

Chapters: 45 plus epilogue

Pages: 388

Genre: Historical fiction

Rating: 4 stars

The King's Mercy is the first book by Lori Benton that I've read. The description of a Scotsman exiled to the colony of North Carolina as an indentured after the battle of Culloden and the failed Jacobite rising drew me in for many reasons. I'm a sucker for books about 18th century highlands (thanks in part to Outlander and Laura Frantz' most recent book) and colonial America.  As well as going through Outlander withdraws and not ready to start book six yet because its massive. Plus, the story of exiled highlands parallels how part of my family made it to the new world.  I jumped at the chance to be part of the launch for this book.  And I was not disappointed.

This is my first Lori Benton book and it won’t be my last. I’ve always be a sucker for historical fiction. What made me love this one even more was the strong faith of the heroine and a flaw hero who has to learn that there is mercy even greater than an earthly king’s mercy. But the fact that the author wrote the Cherokees in a fair light made me realize that she is an author who does her research beyond the “winning side’s” view of history.
