Attempted Mountain Abduction is the first book in the Elite Protectors series by Jessica R Patch. I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would as, I'm not a huge fan of second chance romances. Because I don't find them believable nor is the reason for the break up a good one. However with the romance in this one it is a romantic suspense with an equal balance of suspense and romance though it leans more to the suspense the heroine Wendy   had very good reason for ending things with the hero Bridge Spencer whom readers will remember from the Texas Crime Scene Cleaners.  The suspense and Molly the little girl in the story who is very much on the spectrum.  And written well. As Autism is a spectrum and if you know one person whose Autistic you know one person.  And the romance grew on as I read on.  I will say I do prefer the author's romantic suspense to her thrillers. I loved getting to know Bridge more and Molly and even Wendy and I look forward to the next book in the series.

While I didn't love this one a much as I did the rest of the book in the Lake City Heroes. I did enjoy this novella that serves as a gap between book 2 and book and 3 and gives us  the story of Step Cross James Cross's sister and Detective Tate Cooper James's coworker. I loved the suspense aspect of this one not so much the romance.

I loved this novella in the Gossamer falls series and this one fits in nicely between book one and book two. As much as I loved Cassie and Donovan's story. It's easy to see why this couple's story wouldn't have worked as a novel but was perfect as a novella. 

Title: Perilous Obsession

I will read anything Natalie Walters writes. It's hard to say what series is my favorite. Though because I love each series for different reasons. Though Better Watch out is currently my favorite full length novel because I'm a sucker for a Christmas Rom Com that's not cheesy and having the hero be Former NHL defenseman turned personal protection agent. But I have to say Briggs Turner is giving Nicholas  Garcia a run for his money as my favorite SNAP agency hero. And of course Lahela is just how I pictured a certain cryptologist sister to be. Not to mention this book has my favorite line Natalie's ever written okay my two favorite lines. The first one being. "‘knight in Wrangler armor."  But the one that takes the cake is "BOOTS. Some guys liked a woman in heels, but for Briggs, it was always boots." And as a woman who prefers boots to heels where can I find a real life Briggs?

Deadly Revenge by Patricia Bradley

 

While this was a great end of the series, I did enjoy being back in Pearl River and seeing familiar faces. As well as the suspense and mystery that this book had. It was the mystery and suspense that kept me turning the page. I loved getting to know Jenna Hart better now that she’s a small town deputy.  As well as seeing small town Tennessee police work with the TBI working together in the form of Agent Maxwell Anderson. However my only complaint was that the relationship between the hero and heroine felt somewhat rushed.

Trail of Threats by Jessica R Patch review

 

Trail of Threats by Jessica R Patch is the six book in Mountain Country K-9 but can be read as a standalone. Sadie Owen’s is determined to give her son a life she’s not looking for love and neither is Officer Rocco Manelli he wants to protect and serve. But then Sadie becomes a target and everything changes. I loved how Sadie didn’t give up and was willing to fight but her son and his service dog stole the book. This suspense novel had me turning pages late into the night because I had to know what happened. However this one isn’t as dark as her FBI:Strange Crime unit. This is the romantic suspense most readers enjoy.

I can’t wait to read more by the author and more in the series.

Fatal Witness is the second book in the Pearl River Series by Patricia Bradley and I have to say that it’s my favorite in the series so far. We meet the hero Mark Lassiter in the first book in the series so this is indeed a series that one needs to read in order. Mark is a K-9 officer for the county. He's also an Army Veteran and sniper who this reader is convinced he has PTSD. But it's his faith that helps to make him a good hero.  
Dani Bennett is a potter who has no memory of her life prior to moving to Montana with her uncle. Little does she know her Grandmother Mae Richmond has been looking for; for twenty five years.

I took my time with this one because I didn’t want it to end. But it was one that I could have easily finished in one day if I didn’t need to be a responsible adult and go to work the next day because I just had to find out what happened. I’m just a little sad that I guessed the bad guy before they figured it out.

Fatal Witness was my favorite kind of romantic suspense suspenseful with a hint of romance. Mark was the perfect romantic suspense hero not perfect he had his flaws, but he was a good man trusting God. And with Mae this book shows just how far the love of a grandmother goes for her granddaughter. I loved the faith content I just wished we knew where Dani was on her faith journey.

I look forward to the final book in the series.

The first time I read Jessica Patch was with A Cry in the Dark and that book gave me nightmares. The book is no worse than a Criminal Minds episode which is my comfort show. But the setting of A Cry in the dark hit too close to home. But that aside I loved the book and had me hooked on Jessica’s writing.

So I knew I had to jump at a chance to Crime Scene Conspiracy. I loved the Texas setting and Texas Ranger Emily O’Connell. And crime scene clean up guy Stone Spencer was pretty cool too. While I read this one in September it’s actually a suspense set at Christmas. I loved the banter between Stone and Emily. As well as him accepting Emily for the strong and confident woman she is heck I think it makes him love her more. And just like Jessica’s previous suspense books the book has more suspense than romance which I love.

As someone in which Die Hard is a much watch Christmas movie, yes, I’m weird but it’s what happens when you are the daughter of a Marine. Natalie Walters gives me the Christmas suspense rom com I didn’t know I was missing with Better Watch Out. I loved Frannie and meeting Andrew as well as seeing old favorites. And it doesn’t that Andrews a former hockey player I’m finding I’m looking that hero type of my rom coms lately. And it’s got my favorite meet cute ever cause I could see it happening to me.

No one does suspense like Natalie and now she dipped into Christmas rom coms with suspense and I’m here for it. And New York is the perfect setting for a romantic suspense involving mistaken identity and a Christmas adventure because nothing is like Christmas in New York. Oh don’t forget the pepper spray.

If you are like me, you are going to love all the references to classic Christmas and slight poking fun at hallmark movies you’ve gonna love this one. Better Watch out is going to become a Christmas book I reread every year.

A Cry in the Dark by Jessica Patch reminded me of a Criminal minds episode. But it kind of gave me nightmares not because it was like criminal minds which happens to be my comfort show. But because the book pretty much takes place in my backyard. Suspense novels set in Kentucky my home state keep me on edge especially those that could happen. Which is kind of the case for this one. But it’s still good. I did enjoy this one more than the first one in the series. And the team reminds me a bit of the Criminal minds team. I can’t wait till the third book.

Her Darkest Secret was a romantic suspense novel that kept this reader on the edge of her seat. I’m normally not a fan of second chance romances but this one between Asa Kodiak and Fiona Kelly just seemed to work. And it didn’t hurt that this book could easily be Criminal minds episode.

I wasn’t sure how I was going to like Counter Attack by Patricia Bradley because even though I tend to love small town law enforcement stories I’m not a huge fan of second chance romance stories. But I didn’t need to worry. As the romance in this one is only a small part of the story.

Alexis Stone is a Chattanooga police officer who wants to be police chief. She has no desire to go back to her small hometown of Pearl River though the grandparents who raised her are still there. Nathan Landry is the police chief of Pearl River. He never wanted to leave his small town and he’s Alexis high school boyfriend. Neither one is looking for romance when an emergency lands Alexis back in town as the acting sheriff and both of them trying to stop a serial killer.

As someone who only likes a little bit of romance with my romantic suspense this one was perfect. What I loved about this one the most was the faith aspect, while Alexis is running from God he’s running after her and he uses her grandma to do it. The faith of that woman reminded me so much of my own grandma. And I just loved her stubborn grandpa.

Counter Attack was a quick read I kept turning pages because I just had to know what happened. It’s not every day you find a romantic suspense set job in a small town that involves a serial killer. The only drawback for me as a reader is that I figured out the bad guy before the heroine and hero did. Even though there are clues throughout the book it’s not enough for most readers to pick it up, but if you read as much suspense as I do then you may also piece together the clues. However, it didn’t take away my enjoyment of the book and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Cold Light of Day by Elizabeth Goddard

Elizabeth Goddard is quickly becoming one of my favorite Christian Romantic Suspense authors. I’ve enjoyed everything she’s written so far and Cold Light of Day  is no different. I enjoyed the new setting as I haven’t read a romantic suspense set in Alaska. And I think Alaska lends itself to its own character in this novel.

Autumn Long is the police chief of Shadow Gap Alaska when a crime wave hits her small town. She’s doesn’t have enough officers or the support of the town council. But she’s a capable police officer and she’s determined to prove that she’s the right person to be chief.

Grier Brenner is a man who’s running from his his past as well as keeping secrets. But he still has a heart for helping and doing the right thing. Not to mention he’s pretty much adopted by a husky with one blue eye one brown eye name Cap. Pretty cap was my favorite character though bear was a close second.

I also loved the people of Shadow Gap the old guys at the diner reminded me of my grandpa and his friends.

The suspense kept me turning the pages because I just had to find out what happened. And another plus is I didn’t figure out who done it till it was revealed. And I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

While each book in the Rocky Mountain Courage is a standalone it’s best to read them in order. Because there’s a small plot that starts in Present Danger but isn’t wrapped till Critical Alliance. Each book is a new mystery but what ties each together is the friendships between one of the main characters.

Though I have to say that critical Alliance the final book and the one that focused on cybercrime. I loved Mackenzie and Alex. Mackenzie’s a reformed computer hacker and Alex works for a government agency that handles higher level crimes. So it gave me a bit of Penelope Garcia vibes. This one was the faster paced book of the series and it kept me turning pages. If it hadn’t been for work and sleep, I would have finished it in one night. I look forward to more books by Elizabeth Goddard.

    Natalie Walters has given readers another great read with plenty of suspense, romance, faith, pop culture references. As well as plenty of nerdy science jokes and t-shirts.

Elinor Mitchell is aerospace engineer love a woman in STEM. Who may be in over her head and doesn’t even know it? Kekoa Young is a former navy cryptologist a modern-day code breaker and member of the SNAP team whose teammate Lyla thinks he looks like Jason Momoa. He might be considered a hunky Hawaiian, but he has a heart of gold. Can he let go of the past? And can Elinor learn to let people in.

I think Kekoa may be my favorite hero of Natalie’s. I know Elinor is my favorite heroine because I find myself relating to her the most. Even though I’m not a space engineer I am a high nerd who wears nerdy bookish t-shirts and quotes random bookish facts and random facts in general when nervous. And like Elinor I was close to my grandpa.

I didn’t know that a book could make one homesick for a person, especially a person no longer with me. But reading Elinor story and relationship with her grandpa made me miss mine. So, it’s safe to say this book made me cry. But it also made me laugh as well.

The Catch is the third book in the US Marshals series by Lisa Harris. And while the Marshal case for each book is different. The main suspense line and romance subplot is through all three books so it’s important to read them in order. As the main suspense thread doesn’t get tied up till this one.

Since this is the third book in the series it’s hard to talk about plot without spoiling the whole series. But since this one involves a missing child I found it to be the most suspenseful and stressful of the books. But still good. I ended up finishing it in two days. It would have been one day if things like food and work didn’t need to happen. But it was a book that could easily be read in one day.

While I did enjoy the suspense in this one as well as The Princess Bride mentions and quotes. But especially Gil calling Ivy Buttercup was precious. And I loved that Ivy was a woman in science. Quite frankly we need more women in STEM in fiction books. I didn’t like this one as much as the first book in the series.

Mainly because to me the suspense and mystery was a little on the slow side. But it was still good and it kept me on my toes the whole the time I was reading. But more importantly I didn’t figure out The Who done it. I love when mysteries and suspense keep me guessing till the end. And I look forward to the next book in the series.

Crosshairs by Patricia Bradley is the third book in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, and I think it’s my favorite of the series. I loved Ainsley and Lincoln banter. I normally don’t like second chance romances but for some reason throw in suspense and mystery it works.

Lincoln as a former FBI sniper it’s dealing with PTSD and survivor guilt at least in my opinion. Which makes him a believable hero. Because no one is prefect everyone has flaws. Ainsley must learn to trust again all while trying to find a killer or killers before she becomes the next victim.

Lincoln might be former FBI turned Park Ranger, but he doesn’t step on Ainsley’s toes as an investigative service ranger as it’s her case. He knows she can handle it probably better than he can. He just wants to be there.

Crosshairs had the perfect balance of romance and suspense and mystery that kept me turning the pages. I look forward to the final book in the series coming out next year. And even though each book in the series is a standalone book I recommend reading them in order.
