Until Our Time Comes is the debut novel by Nicole M. Miller about a part of World War Two history. Involving the Janow Podlaski stables in Poland. This book was the first time I had heard about it. But horse trainer Adia Kensington and Bret Conway bring the story to life.

While you can tell the author did her research and but that it to the book it reads like the historical fiction novel it is and not a history textbook. I felt like I was there with Adia as she tries to save the horses. It felt like I was traveling across Poland with her and eventually farther into Eastern Europe.  And of course it brought history to life for me. I did learn a lot from this book as the only thing I already knew was the bit about the allies making their way east. I can’t wait to see what else this author writes.

At Love's Command by Karen Witemeyer review

Hanger’s horseman established by the hero to make up for failures he feels he made while serving in the cavalry. And the horseman are made up of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Jonah you thought I was going John didn’t you. Dr Josephine Burkett is woman in a man’s world who ends up hiring the horseman to recuse her brother and ends up getting more than she bargained for.

Reading this book reminded me why I fell in love with Karen Witemeyer in the first place. This book was a combination of western, adventure, and rom com. I loved the banter between Jo and Matthew. Matthew wanted to protect Jo, but he also let her stand on her own. Which makes him my favorite kind of hero. I look forward to the next book in the series.

 

 

In A Far-Off Land by Stephanie Landsem review

In A Far Off Land by Stephanie Landsem is a book that’s slightly out of my comfort zone but I did enjoy it. This one was edger that other Christian fiction that I’ve read but it was worth the read. I enjoyed the prodigal son retelling in 1930s Hollywood which was a setting that worked for the type of retelling.

The author stayed true to history and it’s easy to see that she did her research in order to do justice to hard topics. Even now no one wants to admit it but during the depression Americans weren’t fond of immigrants taken what few jobs and the author handled that event in the novel truthfully. As well as the police corruption in the L.A. police department in the 1930s which is indeed based in historical fact. That the author handled tactfully.

This book is worth the read but it’s a hard read.

The Lady in Residence by Allison Pittman review

      I’m not going to lie even after finishing Lady In Residence by Allison Pittman I don’t know how I feel about it.  It’s one of those that I am on the fence about, and that doesn’t happen often. I didn’t love it nor did I hate it. I did enjoy the dual time aspect of the novel. I am finding that I do indeed enjoy dual time I’ve always been a historical fiction reader and I’m now slowly getting into reading contemporary though it’s not my go to genre. Dual time gives me my favorite genre while edging me into contemporary.

 

     Dini Blackstone was my favorite character in the book. I loved her quirkiness as well as her love of true crime. And her determination to solve a century year old crime. I saw some of myself in her, I’m a true crime nut especially historical crime. Quin the modern hero was alright he just wasn’t a favorite.

 

     I didn’t care for the historical heroine Hedda but that’s due in part to the fact that don’t care for unreliable narrators. I’ve never liked reading from their points of view. Nor was I fond of the ghost story aspect.  But that doesn’t mean someone else won’t love it.

 

     However, I did enjoy how the author wove both stories and time periods together to get one interesting story.

Review of Now and Forever

Now and Forever is the second book in Wild at heart Series. This book focuses on Shannon Wilde the middle sister. Who after spending five days in the wilderness with Matthew Tucker she is forced to marry him in order to save her reputation.  It is a marriage of opposites as Shannon wants to live a peaceful life raising her sheep. She doesn't want to harm anything. While Matthew is a mountain man who makes his living by hunting and trapping things. 

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time that I was reading it. Even though I enjoyed this book more than the first book in the series I am still looking forward to the third book and Bailey's story.
