I’m not going to lie this one wasn’t a favorite read. And that’s okay there’s a book for every reader and a reader for every book. The Sweet Life was well written and a good story. However, for me it hit to close to home. The loss of a parent, a parent going through cancer. And the wedding being call off. Been there done that. But I do have to say this book had me laughing as well as crying. And I liked it enough to read more of the authors contemporaries.

In A Far-Off Land by Stephanie Landsem review

In A Far Off Land by Stephanie Landsem is a book that’s slightly out of my comfort zone but I did enjoy it. This one was edger that other Christian fiction that I’ve read but it was worth the read. I enjoyed the prodigal son retelling in 1930s Hollywood which was a setting that worked for the type of retelling.

The author stayed true to history and it’s easy to see that she did her research in order to do justice to hard topics. Even now no one wants to admit it but during the depression Americans weren’t fond of immigrants taken what few jobs and the author handled that event in the novel truthfully. As well as the police corruption in the L.A. police department in the 1930s which is indeed based in historical fact. That the author handled tactfully.

This book is worth the read but it’s a hard read.

A Curious Incident by Vicki Delany is the sixth book in the Sherlock Holmes bookshop mystery series. I finished the book in a day. Unfortunately it was too predictable. Which can mean two things, I’m getting burnt out on this series m, or I’ve read to many cozy mysteries and need a break from them. I just don’t know which it is.

I do know that I still enjoyed reading this one even i figured who done but the heroine did. But I’ll keep reading cozy mysteries because they are my go to comfort read. Some readers comfort read is women’s fiction, chick lit or romance but mine is cozy mysteries.

This is a quick read in the farm to fork mystery series.

Proof of Murder is the fourth book in the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series by Lauren Elliott. Addie Greyborne has found herself involved in another murder and again she’s a prime suspect. And she have to clear her name and fast.

Proof of Murder of Murder wasn’t my favorite of the series but I still enjoyed it. It kept me guessing from beginning to end. But the character plot this time fell flat for me. However it’s not enough to stop me from reading the next book in the series when it comes out.

OF Literature and Lattes review

I’ve come to the conclusion that Katherine Reay’s books at least the physical version are hit or miss for me. However I have discovered that I prefer her books on audio to print. To me women’s fiction is better on audio for me.

Of Literature and Latte is the companion novel to The Printed Letter Bookshop. I wouldn’t consider it a sequel it has some of the same characters as the previous novel but the two main characters in this book are new characters.

However there’s slight spoilers for secondary characters in this one who were main characters in the first one. So if you don’t like any spoilers then I recommend reading The Printed Letter Bookshop first.

Murder Makes Scents by Christin Brecher is the second book in the Nantucket Candle Maker Mystery.  As the second book in the series, it's hard to talk to about the characters without giving things away from the first book.   

But I can say that this a crafty cozy mystery featuring candles and the small coastal town of Nantucket Mass.  It was a fast read, and even though I didn't enjoy it as well as the first book in the series it was still a good read. Perfect for fans of crafty cozy. Just make sure you read the first book in the series first.

Mountain Hostage is a typical Love Inspired suspense.  It is a short read but it is action-packed and fast-paced. Like most Love inspired books I was able to finish it in a day. I have to say that Romeo was my favorite character in the book. I look forward to the rest of the books in the series.

However, it was one of the funniest cozies that I’ve read in a while. Millie Fisher reminds me a bit of an Amish Miss Marple. So if you like cozy mysteries along those lines then this is a cozy mystery for you.

Murder in the First Ediition is the 3^rd book in the Beyond the Page Bookstore series by Lauren Elliott and it is the Christmas season in Greyborne Harbor.  And a first editon copy of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is stolen from the scene of a murder and Addie feels like she must help the police find the book.

As the third book in a series it is a standalone mystery but the characters develop over the three books.  So it is best to read the books in order.  But in the midst of a murder investigation you do find a town preparing for Christmas making this one a Christmas cozy.

This one wasn’t my favorite of the series but it was still an enjoyable read.  I would recommend this cozy for fans of other crafty cozy mysteries.   This one is also a fairly quick read.

A Soldier’s  Prayer by Jenna Mindel is another sweet romance from Love Inspired. Both Monica Zelinksy and Cash Miller are going to discover that God’s plans aren’t always the same as our plans.   The only thing I didn’t like was the title,  which doesn’t take away from the story but doesn’t fit the hero as the hero is a Marine, not a Soldier I don’t other readers will be bother by it like I was.

But it was till an enjoyable read.

Breaking Anxiety's Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God promises is a nonfiction book by Michelle Bengston about dealing with Anxiety God's way.  Because Anxiety doesn't come from God but he does want to help you through it.  I picked this book up because for as long as I can remember I have moments where I've dealt with Anxiety and most things had worked but only for a season. This book armed with scripture and even songs for different types of Anxiety. 

Not every chapter in this book is going to be for everyone.  But with the set up of this book, the reader can pick and choose which chapters are best for them.  However, this book shouldn't be used to replace professional help for your Anxiety.

Unscripted Review

Unscripted is my first book by Davis Bunn and while it was a well-written story the author's writing style just wasn't for me.  Danny is accused of a crime he didn't commit.  Megan is the lawyer that first hears about his case and while she can't take the case she finds a lawyer who can. 

I do have to say that Unscripted is a story about second chances as well as learning to trust God.  Both the main characters don't realize it but they both have a chance and second chance.  Though with Megan it doesn't seem like it. 

Even though I didn't really like this one. I am willing to give another book by this author a try. I'd recommend this book to fans of the author as well as for fans of Christian fiction.

Buried in the Stacks is the third book in The Haunted Library Mysteries series by Allison Brook. Carrie Singleton is settling into her job at the library but has discovered something, the colder weather brings the local homeless population to the library.  That employees and patron's alike don't like and employee that wasn’t that well-liked ends up murdered. Carrie at first plans to stay out of it because she has enough to deal with, without adding crime-solving to it.   Between planning programs and handling tensions between the homeless people and everybody else.  For working in a public library I can tell you that what the author wrote has indeed happened before.  Any city that has a homeless population is going to have that group end up at one of the public libraries in that city at least once. 

This one wasn't my favorite book of the series so far but it was still an enjoyable read.
