Deception by Patricia Bradley is the fourth and final book in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series: I enjoyed this one, but it wasn’t my favorite of the series. While the case was interesting it was Madison’s personal journey and story that kept me turning pages to find out what happened.

While I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I did the first one in the series. But I did enjoy that the suspense kept me guessing and wanting to turn the page to find out what happened.

I loved getting to read more about Bill “Drumstick” Sanders after meeting him in the first book in the series. As well as meeting FBI Special Agent Lynda Culter. Though I’m not a fan of second chance romances this one worked for me. I think it was because it was romantic suspense was what made it work.

Even though Word of Honor is a standalone novel within a series I do recommend you read the books in series order, otherwise you will miss some things and get spoiled for others. But all in all, I did enjoy reading this one. And I think Hallee Bridgeman is becoming a new favorite Suspense author.

     Body of Evidence is the final book in A Triple Threat series by Irene Hannon. I enjoyed this final book and getting to read Grace’s story. It was also fun to see a forensic pathologist as the heroine as you don’t really see that in suspense book. I also enjoyed that there was more suspense than romance. I like my romantic suspense with a hint of romance and Irene does it brilliantly

While Body Evidence is a standalone story in the series but it also wraps up the series. But reading this one has me wanting to read more romantic suspense in which one of the characters has a forensic or behind the scenes jobs not just in law enforcement as there’s not enough out there. And as always, I look forward to Irene Hannon’s next book.

Honor Bound by Hallee Bridgeman review

I’m not going to lie I picked up Honor Bound because of the cover. But I was excited to read it because it was military suspense and finding out the author was a military wife and lived in my home state it moved it to the top of my to be read pile. And I’m glad I did.

I will admit I liked the hero Captain Rick Norton from the start, but it took me almost half the book to warm up to the heroine Dr. Cynthia Myers. But it didn’t stop me from enjoying the book.

I did enjoy reading about Rick and his team about how the team got their nicknames. I love how military nicknames don’t always make sense to outsiders. But as a military brat they made sense to me. And the fact that one of guys is a Kentucky boy doesn’t hurt.

Slight spoiler two of the guys in the book have a post mission tradition to get burgers. And based on where they are stationed, I picture them eating at The Black Horse pub eating Cletus burgers post mission. I see it becoming the go to burgers. Can’t wait to finish the series.

Elysium Tide by James R. Hannibal review

While I didn’t love Elysium Tide as much as I did the first book, I read by James R Hannibal but I did enjoy this one I loved the Hawaiian setting. And the partnership between a doctor and detective though reluctant. It was a neat twist to the how suspense novel.

Plus, the banter between Peter Chesterfield the doctor and Detective Lisa Kealoha was prefect and only added to the story. The mystery and the suspense as well as the pace of the story kept me turning pages. I would have finished it in one night if I didn’t need sleep.

Can’t wait to pick up the next one by James R. Hannibal.

     I enjoy the suspense and the secondary storyline and characters. But it took me a while to warm up to Penny. But once I did, I was rooting for her and Holt both on and off the off case.

Eason’s books always have the right balance of romance to suspense in her romantic suspense and Life Flight was no different. With her suspense I’m going to get well drawn mystery that will kept me on my toes to very last page with my happy ending. I also enjoy that while she writes series each book in the series is stand alone. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

The Chase by Lisa Harris picks up three months after book one The Escape ends and even though this  series contains three standalone stories with the same characters with its own suspense thread there is an overall suspense thread that goes through all the books in the series.  Book one ended in a cliff hanger even though one part of the story was solved. So it is important that you read these books in order.   I enjoyed this one more than I did the first book though I loved both. But this one moved faster, and I think it's due in part to the characters of US Marshal's Madison and Jonas having already been developed and they have settled into  their partnership. 

 

 When it comes to suspense series this is my favorite kind, the kind in which there's an overall arching suspense arc through all the books in the series connecting them that way. But then each book with the same main characters are not have a suspense thread that is wrapped up by the end of the book. But this series has been neat in the sense that each book has also focuses on different aspects of what the Marshal's do such as this book focuses on serving warrants and fugitives. I'm looking forward to the final book in the series to see how the series arc ends.

The Traitor's Pawn is the first book that I've read by Lisa Harris and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. FBI Jack Shannon is in Corpus Christi Texas following a lead on his case only to find that Aubrey Grayson his childhood best friend and the woman he once loved has ties to the case.  He's determined to keep her safe while solving his case. 

This is a stand-alone suspense at least right now. I enjoyed the story it was a fast-paced suspense novel that only had a hint of romance which is how I like my suspense novels.  The Traitor's Pawn is a suspense novel that has something for everyone, suspense fans who don't' like a lot of romance in their will like this one, and even romantic suspense fans will like this one because there is still hint of romance. 

I read this one in two days I couldn't put the book down. I do know that I will be looking for any new books by Lisa Harris in the future and for now I plan to work my through her back list.

Collateral Damage Review

Lynette Eason has been my go-to for suspense and law enforcement novels. Now it looks like she’s going to be my go-to for military fiction in the Christian fiction market along Ronie Kendig. I didn’t know how I was going to feel about Collateral Damage because outside of Revolutionary war fiction I don’t tend to read military fiction as I’m scared that the authors not going to do their research or in my opinion not do justice to characters. But since I’ve loved Lynette Eason’s law enforcement suspense I was willing to give this new series a try and she really did her research.

The hero and heroine shows that there are no unwounded in war. That they all have scars just that some aren’t physical and they war can affect people differently.

I plan to continue the series and I look forward to the second book releasing this year.

Justice Mission Review

Justice Mission is the first book in the True Blue K-9 Unit a series of books about different officers in the K-9  that  do have a long term case that gets built upon through book and the rest of the series. So it is best to read the series in order. Like most books in the Love inspired suspense imprint these books are fairly short a little over two hundred pages.  In this first one administrative assistant Sophie Walters becomes a kidnapped victim because she something she shouldn't have. And lends the team discover one of them has been murdered And it's up to NYPD Officer Luke Hathaway to rescue her but then it turns into him and his K-9 partner on guard duty.  

I enjoyed this book and seeing a fictional account of a K-9 unit and let's face it those K-9's are the unsung heroes of most police departments and in this book Luke's dog is a main character all on his alone and I loved that. Bruno is a German shepherd and even though he's a police dog who spends a lot of time working he still has German Shepherd qualities that you would find in most German shepherds.   Part of the story wraps up neatly at the end of the book, but the murder and other parts of the story don't they will carry over into the other books in the series. 

I look forward to the rest of the books in this series as well as other books by Lynette Eason, each book in this series is written by different author.  This book and this series is great for fans of Christian Suspense and Christina Romantic Suspense. Fans of the author as well.

The String Review

I enjoy reading suspense books but with The String by Caleb Breakey I discovered that I am not really a fan of those suspense books that bleed over into Psychological thrillers. But that's okay because not every book is for every reader.  I believe this book was the first book in a while that kept me up all night for two reasons, I wanted to finish it in one sitting, because even though I didn't enjoy the book it was a fast paced read.  The other reason being it sort of gave me a slight nightmare.  I think mainly because I am such a visual reader. I can picture the setting a book in my mind to point that it's almost like watching TV. 

That being said the book is well written, plotted in a manner that allows the story to flow quickly; allowing a reader to read it in one sitting.  However, I wouldn't recommend reading it at night or when your home alone.  Even though I didn't love it I know that readers who love psychological thrillers will love it. Even those fans who don't read Christian fiction will still enjoy the read.  I'm still willing to give future books by this author a try though anymore psychological thrillers of his I plan to approach with caution.    My rating is due to personal reasons based on the reaction I had to the book it kind of freaked me out. However, for readers in general and the writing, voice, and plot of the novel I would give it 4.5 stars.

Never Let Go is the first book I’ve read by Elizabeth Goddard and it will not be my last. When I read the blurb on the back I knew it was a book for me. Willow is a Forensic Genealogist which is a term I’ve never heard before but I was intrigued, as someone who majored in Criminal Justice in college and now works as a library assistant in the genealogy and local history department of my library this sounded like I a job I would be interested in.  Because after all with genealogy you are trying to solve the mysteries of the near past as well as the far past.

So it makes since that a Forensic Genealogist would help the police and FBI with missing people’s cases.   Makes me want to research and see if there are actual Forensic Genealogist in real life in case I ever want a career change.

Reading Never Let Go was bittersweet for me as I to have a late grandfather who fostered my love of genealogy. So it was easy to picture and understand what Willow was going through with her own loss of her grandfather. The ex FBI agent Austin McKade and Willow’s ex was the kind of hero I enjoy reading about in Christian Suspense novels.  The kind while being a man of faith have a flaws and issues in their past that they need to deal with. It shows that they are human but God can still use them.

I enjoyed this action packed Christian Suspense novel. That I think anyone who loves suspense will enjoy. I even learned about a possible new forensic career.  I look forward to new books in the series as well as other books from Elizabeth.

Review of Oath of Honor

In Oath of Honor by Lynette Eason the first book in the Blue Justice the entire novel literally lasts a total of six days. Though the novel moves at a fast pace you don't lose anything from the story. Isabelle St. John comes from a law enforcement family, with all of her brothers in law enforcement and one sister. With her mom being the chief of police for their town.  Oath of Honor takes places in a fictionalize version of Columbia South Carolina.   The novel gave me a bit of a Blue Bloods feel but with the Christian faith added in. 

But then Isabelle's world comes crashing down around her, her partner is murdered and she barely makes it out, she's saved by an unlikely source.  She then discovers a member of her own family  may be responsible.  She then decides to try to solve Kevin's murder on her own, but Detective Ryan Marshall Kevin's older brother and the man she's had a crush on for years will not let her work the case alone.  Isabelle's trying hard to protect her heart from getting broken.  But someone else is also trying very hard to protect Isabelle's heart as well as his. Ryan also wants to protect Isabelle's life no matter the cost.

I've read many books by Lynette's books before but Oath of Honor is my favorite book of hers so far.  I loved Isabelle's faith and determination and how much she loved her family.  Ryan's nature to protect those he loves above all else.  My favorite character though wasn't human instead it was Isabelle's dog Mozart a miniature Eskimo Spitz.  Mainly because I had one as a children and they are lovable and loyal dogs. Another thing that I liked about Oath of Honor is that while there was some romance in the story it wasn't the whole story.       I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Chloe's story.  As well as reading about the rest of Isabelle's siblings in their own stories especially Isabelle's twin.

Accused is the first book the Pacific Coast Justice Detective Carly Edwards is a cop who has been removed from patrol and put in Juvenile. All she wants to do is get back to patrol when a murder rocks the small community.

I enjoyed the suspense and mystery of the novel with just a little bit of romance, cannot wait to read the second book in this series. As a Criminal Justice major I just love mysteries and suspense that involve law enforcement. Even though Accused is a suspense novel it does have a little bit of everything for everyone.

Review of A Killer Among us

     A Killer Among Us is the third book in the women of Justice series. This book focuses on Kit Kenyon Jamie’s(Don’t look behind) twin sister. Noah Lambert is trying to get use to having a female partner. They are hunting a serial killer that is killing a select group of people law school students. Either Kit or Noah are a target though they don’t know which one.

     I enjoyed reading the book, but unlike the first two books I was still guessing til the very end who the bad guy was. With the first two I figured it out half way through. This one I found out when everyone else did. I am looking forward to Lynette’s next book.

     Don’t Look Back is the second book in the woman of Justice series. Jamie Cash is a forensic anthropologist who survived a kidnapping and attempted murder has finally got her life back, and living for God. Dakota Richards is an FBI agent that is running from God even though he wouldn’t admit it. You first meet Jamie and Dakota in Too Close to home. Jamie is Samantha’s younger sister. You don’t have to read the books in order but to understand what’s going on and not have anything given a way it’s best to read them in order. 

     Jamie is working as a forensic anthropologist for a South Carolina police department when the team discovers bones of a murder victim. Which lead Jamie and the team to realize that her attacker is back, and Dakota will do whatever it takes to protect Jamie. It will become a race to find the killer before Jamie becomes his next victim. Will Jamie be able to let go of the past and have a future with Dakota? What kind of surprises in store for the sisters?

     I really enjoyed the book I am looking forward to the third book in the women of justice series and Lynette’s next book. I liked how the bad guys name wasn’t given to the end of the book. He had a nickname “Hero” because he seriously thought he was the hero to the girls he attacked. Unlike the first book I figured out who was the bad guy before the book stated it. But still enjoyed the book. 

Review of Too Close to Home

     Connor Wolfe is a homicide decetive assigned a case of missing teenage girls, one of whom’ body turns up. There’s really nothing to link the girls other than the fact that they all have access to a computer. That’s where FBI special agent Samantha Cash comes in. She’s a computer expert or as Connor calls her the first time he meets her a computer geek.

     Together they work together to find the missing girls and solve the case while fighting their feelings for each other. Samantha’s faith is strong and Connor’s is all but gone. Too Samantha it seems like he blames God for taking his wife. Then something happens with the case, it hits home, and what could have destroyed Connor faith brings him back to where he needs to be.

     I enjoyed the book, but then again I am a huge fan of suspense. I loved that Lynette kept you guessing about who the bad guy was the whole time. The epilogue was a teaser for the next book. Which is the story of Jamie Samantha’s sister.

     Even though it was a bit of a love story, it was secondary the novel mostly focused on the crime and the working to solve it. So I would call the book Christian suspense and mystery with just a hint of romance.
