Echoes Between Us Review

Echoes Between UsTitle:  Echoes Between Us

Author: Katie McGarry

Genre: Teen fiction

Rating: 4 stars

Publisher:  Tor Teen

What would you do if you were seeing your dead mother's ghost? That's the question that popped in my head as I was reading Katie's newest book Echoes between U. I don't know what your answer would be, but mine would be to call and make an appointment with my doctor because of myself like the main character Veronica suffers from migraines and I too also have a deceased mother.

I've been a fan of Katie's since I read her first book back in 2012 Pushing the limits and I've enjoyed every book of her since even this one. Echoes between Us is slightly more paranormal elements than previous books and though not a sequel to Only a Breath Apart it does read like a companion novel as characters from that book make an appearance in this one. So I recommend reading that one first.

What I like most about Katie's books besides being set in my home state of Kentucky is that she's not afraid to write about teenagers facing hardships and tough decisions and other issues they go through in a real way, she writes the kind of books that I wish were available when I was a teenager.

And in this book apart from her medical issues, Veronica is a teenager who believes in ghosts and in the process drags Sawyer along for the ride.  There are three places that are mentioned including a TB hospital that are pretty famous in Kentucky that I had always wondered if Katie was ever going to find a way to work them into her books and she managed to do that with this book.  I enjoy reading her books and finding Easter eggs from places I visited in my own teenage hood mentioned.

If you've read Katie's books in the past I recommend picking this one up. And even if you haven't but like to read YA I recommend picking this one up. And as always I look forward to Katie's next book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Review of Say You'll Remember me

Say You'll Remember Me
Title: Say You’ll Remember me
Author:   Katie McGarry
Pg: 452
Genre: Teen Contemporary
Rating:  4 stars
Say You’ll Remember Me is Katie’s first standalone novel. That was a nice change of pace from all the series of hers. It was nice to read a story that wrapped up with one book. Though this was the first one of hers that made me cry.
Drix is part of a second chance program after being convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. It’s the governor’s pet project. Elle is the governor’s daughter who wants to follow her own path not the path that her father has laid out for her. She wants a life outside of politics. In any other setting these two would have never meet. But they do and they end up falling for each other. But they come from two different worlds.
I enjoy the fact that Katie writes teen books about issues that real teens face in real life. She doesn’t sugar coat anything, she real. I kinda sad that I didn’t’ have an author like her writing books like this when I was a teen.

Review of Only a Breath Apart

Only a Breath Apart
Title: Only a Breath Apart
Author:   Katie McGarry
Pg:365
Genre: Teen Contemporary
Rating:  4.5
Only a Breath Apart is the newest book by Katie McGarry. And each of her books just keep getting better. I have to say that this book is my favorite of hers so far.  Like all of Katie’s previous books this one is set in Kentucky. This one is set in small town Kentucky.

Jess Lachlin believes that he is cursed either that or his family’s land is cursed. Scarlett Copeland wants to just get out of town and go to the University of Kentucky to get the degree that she wants. Not the life that everyone else wants her to live. These two teens were friends as children but drifted apart at the start of high school.  The book is told from the point of view of both Jess and Scarlet told in alternating chapters.

Both Jess and Scarlett have a lot to learn and growing to do. As they are going to need each in order for both their dreams to succeed. Growing up in Kentucky and spending summer on my great-grandparents farm I understand how important Jess’s farm and land is to him. As land is still important to Kentucky farmers to this day. And how a lot of them her land rich but cash poor, but they don’t want to sale because the land has been in the family for generations.

This book wrapped up nicely but did leave room for a possibly sequel or even a series and I enjoyed that.

Review of Nowhere but Here

Dreaming Under the Same Moon : Cover Candy, Edition 20Title: Nowhere But Here

Author: Katie McGarry

Series: Thunder Road book 1

Pages: 496

Genre: new adult

Rating: 4 stars

Nowhere but Here is the first book in the Thunder Road series. It is a series about a motorcycle club. Emily has thought for her whole life that her dad didn't want her. That he left her and her mother.  What she doesn't knew is that they couldn't be farther from the truth. Oz has only wanted one thing and that is to become a member of the reign of terror.  He believes that Emily is going to ruin it for him.  I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I would say that is a new adult book because there are some scenes that would not suitable for younger readers.

Mini Teen reviews

Rites of Passage by Joy N. HensleyTitle: Rites of Passage

Author: Joy N Hensley

Chapters: 43

Pages: 401

Genre: teen chick lit

Rating: 4 stars
Dean Drill
Sam McKenna

Sam McKenna signs up to be the first of four or five girls to make it at a military school. A school that doesn’t want to change the status quo. But she’s determined to make the McKenna proud. She comes from a military family.
Rites of Passage had me hooked as soon as I found out that it was about a military school, and a military brat. I think I was the only kid I knew who wanted to go to military school at one point. I guess it was the military brat in me. I really enjoyed this book, I wish there was a sequel.

Take Me On – Katie McGarry https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18333898-take-me-on

Title: Take me On

Author: Katie McGarry

Pages: 544

Genre: new adult chick lit

Rating: 4 stars

Take Me on is the fourth book by Katie McGarry though technically not a sequel to anybook in the series, it has characters from the three previous books in it. It is a sort of sequel to Crash into Me, in the since that it has the main character from Crash into Me brother in this book.  Wes is the bad boy brother of Rachel’s. Haley is a girl who use to be a fighter. She trained at her grandfather’s gym and was going places until something happened with her ex-boyfriend .  That leads her to give up fighting until Wes needs her.
Take me on is my second favorite of Katie’s books, behind Crash into me. Wes actually surprised me in this book.  There is more to Wes than meets the eye.  It was also nice to get even more background information about Rachel’s and Wes’s family.

While this book is technically a teen book I was stress that it is for older teens and twenties somethings. This is due in part to language and some situations that the character's  find themselves in.

A cute little read about teen musicians, and singer. With a mix of bluegrass and country. I enjoyed this book more than I did her first book.
